Although Dark Souls may be one of the most difficult games to beat, it has some of the most beautiful and enchanting scenery as well. That’s what inspired these travel posters highlighting three unique areas from the game.
My task in making these posters was to use only color, gradients and shape to create these scenes. To create them, I worked in Photoshop and used one tool almost exclusively, the polygonal lasso tool. This has become one of my favorite ways to illustrate pieces.
When using the polygonal lasso tool, you can create large selections made of several straight lines, making endless varieties of polygons. This creates a wonderful angularity to everything you do with the lasso. And so the focus really is put on the color and unique shapes of the piece. It is a super fun process to work with! It’s almost like making your own paint by number when working this way. If you’re looking for a good way to shake up your digital art process, using the polygonal lasso tool is a super fun way to go!
